PB: Hanna Mangan Lawrence

History: Canon history (Warning: incest, gore, and death. There’s a gif of her dying.)

Seppia was born into a wealthy family in the Capitol. Growing up, she didn’t have to worry about the reapings and her family viewed it as entertainment to look forward to each year. The killings were all very normal for her, justified, and a lot of fun as her brother and her would pick their favorite Tributes and beg their parents to sponsor them (something their parents, largely absent emotionally from their lives, considered a waste of their resources). Seppia has never lost her love for the games and it was a dream to get closer to them and the Tributes she saw dressed up every year-- destined to kill each other.

Lacking in love from her parents, Seppia was always a great deal closer to her older brother than was healthy and he a great deal overprotective of her. Between him and her parents, she never had to worry about anything save for keeping up with the latest fashion and keeping within the cut throat circle of popular girls at her school. It was in trying to keep up with them that she developed what was not a love but certainly a talent for fashion and makeup and in her view there were worse things to do for a job.

She studied fashion, supported by her parents. When she turned 19, they grew tired of looking after their daughter, who had yet to find job that would pay well enough to support herself. Her brother stepped in and offered to let her move in with him. They currently live together in the same luxurious house, even if some people talk about how the two of them might be too close. No one dares to say such things to either of them, less from the fear of Seppia’s response than her brother Seppius’s.

Together with Seppia’s talent and her family’s influence, she managed to secure a position as a stylist for District 4. As a young girl of only 21, it was quite an achievement, one that is lost on Seppia as she only cares for the prestige and proximity to the games she loves, any further ambition is lost on her.

Presentation:

Seppia might be a grown woman, but she doesn’t act like one. Her constant giggling more closely resembles a school girl fawning over a particularly attractive boy. She enjoys gossip and trading barbs with her “friends.” This all gives the appearance of a shallow personality, a woman without much depth lurking below the surface. However, other traits do rise. She can’t manipulate people but she can recognize when she herself is being maneuvered, at least sometimes.

While she’s capable of causing great damage to the reputations of her friends, or getting them into trouble with the Capitol, she instead relishes in causing minor injuries. She favors a cutting remark, one that can be masked as a friendly comment, to anything truly damaging.

Her smug smile often comes about when she’s made a remark meant to sting someone. She’s a clever person, even if she can’t always follow through on her plans. Despite her intelligence, she has no clear ambitions beyond marrying a wealthy, powerful man. She will let her husband gain influence in her stead. She seeks only to have a good time while she can. After all, she is young and she knows that won’t last forever, much as she doesn’t want to admit it. She wants to enjoy it while I can without other concerns. If she has any worries, she doesn’t let them show in public.

While her parents and brothers are involved in the more political side of the Capitol (always careful to keep on the good side of all the proper people), Seppia herself never cared for it, always being concerned with “more important” things such as gossip. She knows enough not to get herself into trouble and that’s all that concerns her in that sphere.

Seppia enjoys indulging herself, relishing a manicure and a day at the spa. She has the usual Capitol decadence and sees no problems with it. She would find it horrible if she had to go without the constant pampering in her life. One of these indulgences is her fondness for the Games-- and now she has a front seat to it. While shy of spilling blood herself, she is eager to watch murder on a screen before her and cheers at deaths regardless of if her favored tribute is the one dying.

Motivations:

Seppia is a selfish girl, motivated only by her own whims. Even those closest to her aren’t immune from her gossipping and she has no care if she hurts them though she would never land them in serious trouble intentionally. She has no such compunction when it comes to people she doesn’t care for. If they stand in her way, she won’t bat an eyelash at their deaths and may even subtly encourage it as long as she is not directly involved.

Though she is not ambitious in her career, she does want to continue her lavish lifestyle. Not wanting to stay tied to her brother, she has her eyes on a husband and is determined to find an influential man to support her, proving she can be ambitious when she puts her mind to it. But she does only puts this ambition to furthering her own whims and she has expressed that she does not want to marry if passions would eventually cool with her husband. She wants-- and feels she deserves-- constant attention.

While Seppia enjoys a show of blood, she is actually squeamish when confronted with it up close. She’s perfectly content to let others take lives but if she’s ever presented with the necessity of doing it, she would find herself coming up short. Watching The Games is another matter entirely than murdering someone yourself. THe guilt and horror of taking someone’s life is harder to avoid when you try to do it with your own hands. However, in the right circumstances, when encouraged, she will seek out blood. With vengeance motivating her, she will manipulate the person who wronged her into a proper position to kill them, as she does in her canon, proving she is not nearly as innocent as she may seem at first sight.

Setting: Seppia is too naive for The Games. She’s fortunate that her views keep her on the good side of the Capitol as she’ll avoid trouble. She isn’t horrified by the revelations of what the Capitol is capable of, seeing those that met their ends as deserving of it although it does frighten her how much power they do have, she simply tries not to think about it and to let her brother worry about it.

As the rebellion picks up speed, she’ll find herself against it and growing more concerned for her life, both as she knows it and literally. She won’t try and take an active role against it unless the Capitol coerces her or she’s driven by thoughts of revenge, for instance if something were to happen to her brother. If something happened to him, she would shed her squeamishness when it comes to directly killing although would still be reluctant. However, the naivete would, while not shed completely, would fade and her determination would harden.

SAMPLES

First Person Thread:

[Seppia is in the middle of eating a grape when she hears her name on her friend’s tongue. Swallowing it, and delicately licking at her fingers, she turns the feed on with a giggle. She’s used to her friends trying to maneuver her into awkward, potentially dangerous positions, but so far she has kept up the air of the spoiled little daughter. She’s not going to disappoint.]

I think the new games are splendid. President Snow and the Gamemakers have truly outdone themselves. Not just two tributes from a district but eight! And what a fine form some of them are in.

[She gives the camera a knowing look, full of a mischievous desire before letting out a small, muffled giggle as she reaches for another grape and teases it with her lips.]

Such power some of them have! Now, there was nothing wrong with the previous games, but how exciting this is! Do tell me, what do you enjoy the most about these new games?

[She takes a bite of her grape and takes a moment to savor the taste before swallowing it. Though truly, it is a little disappointing. The taste was far stronger last season but she doesn’t allow the let down to show.]

I simply can’t choose.

Prose:

Seppia didn’t know what was going on. She’d been lounging in her home with her brother when Peacekeepers stormed through the house, grabbed her, and tore her away from her protesting brother. She feared for what they had done to Seppius and hoped that he had the sense not to intervene further, but as she was brought before the Gamemakers her thoughts turned to herself.

What had she done? She’d never spoken against the Capitol like some traitors who had been been dealt with. She had always supported the Games, worked for them, was excited to see them and held her breath each time a tribute was about to be slaughtered, not out of disgust but delight. And yet here she was and the words they were speaking to her sounded foreign and garbled.

“I-- I do not understand,” she said tremulously, doing her best to hold back a shudder. “What have I done to deserve this? Surely, there has been some mistake. Allow me to prove that I mean no one harm.”

But they did not appear moved by her pleas. She felt tears stinging her eyes. She fought to hold them in and keep her composure. Crying would do her no good and she would rather resort to tears in private but the option was not presented to her.

“Please, I-- I don’t understand.” She repeated.

What is your character scored: 4. If, for some reason, she found herself in the arena, she would freak out and be unable to handle herself. However, she’s proved in canon that if she can get over that hurdle she can devise plans to kill people stronger than her.

Additional information:

Hunger Games AU and OC:
What is your reasoning for the capitol to include your canon doppelganger if they app in?

Seppia is no fighter, canon or otherwise, but she can provide endless entertainment when placed in a life or death struggle. So there are some motivations to bring her in for their amusement. Also what could be more thrilling than watching someone better known as a naive stylist fight to the death? After Cecil’s latest arrival in the arena, it would emphasize that anyone can be sent into the arena for any reason, or none at all if the Capitol so desires. Plus, have you seen that adorable face? Who wouldn’t want two of it?

What district is your character from? How do they feel about home?

Seppia is from the Capitol and she loves it here. She imagines, from time to time, living in the districts and can only conclude that it must be terrible to live there (not that she feels particularly sorry for the people, just that it would be terrible for her). She wouldn’t want to live anywhere else and she doesn’t want the Capitol to change at all.
